  Although a lot of automakers here in the US seem to have largely abandoned the sedan, it continues to be popular among car-buyers year after year. Fortunately, brands like Honda have not left it behind, and the impressive design and features of the 2022 Honda Insight are a great reminder of just how beautiful and sophisticated these vehicles can be. If you are interested in a smaller sedan that offers incredible fuel economy, then the Insight is one that should definitely be on your list of vehicles.

  Although there is a lot to like about the Honda Insight, we cannot help but start with the fact that this is a hybrid vehicle. While a lot of hybrids out there sacrifice some performance in the name of fuel economy, the Insight represents an amazing balance between these two important considerations. Its 1.5L engine with 107 hp might not seem like a monster, but its hybrid powertrain boosts that to a combined 151 hp, and its electronic Continuously Variable Transmission (e-CVT) ensures an incredibly nimble and responsive ride. The Insight is quiet, offers excellent handling and control, and provides you with a fantastic overall driving experience.

  In the past, three trims were available. However, for the 2022 model, Honda has eliminated what was the Insight’s starting trim. This means that you now have two trims to choose from, and the standard features have gotten better than ever before, including automatic climate control, an 8-inch infotainment display, and push-button start. Standard options on the higher trim include a dual-zone automatic climate control system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated seats. Best of all, the Honda Insight is one of the safest cars on the road, with Adaptive Cruise Control, a Lane Keeping Assist System, and much more standard on every model.

  Any time you look at a vehicle, the engine and the kind of performance it can deliver should be one of the first things you consider. While great interior features make for a more comfortable or stylish ride, and safety systems can help protect you and your loved ones, the engine really determines your overall experience on the road. A weak engine can leave you with a drive that never feels rewarding, or that feels like you are not in total control. Fortunately, the hybrid powertrain in the 2022 Honda Insight means this small sedan not only feels sporty and powerful but highly responsive.

  A Fun to Drive Hybrid

  Initially, the basic engine in the Honda Insight might not seem all that impressive, but it is much more than how it appears at first glance. This sedan is powered by a 1.5L I-4 engine that, by itself, provides 107 hp and 99 lb-ft of torque. The key to the power of the Insight, however, is that it is a hybrid model with a battery and motor that boosts overall performance. In fact, the hybrid motor actually delivers more horsepower and torque than the gasoline engine. Combined, you get 151 hp from the engine and motor in the Honda Insight, giving you a much more powerful experience than you expect.

  For example, according to Car and Driver’s testing, the Insight can go from 0 to 60 in just 7.7 seconds – not at all bad for a compact sedan like this. Active noise cancellation and this hybrid engine make for a very quiet ride, so you can really enjoy the road, while a three-mode drive system lets you choose between a standard setting, economy, or sport mode to match the kind of ride you are looking for. The e-CVT system not only helps ensure excellent fuel economy but also provides you with an incredibly responsive drive with nimble, quick handling.

  But Still Efficient

  We mentioned fuel economy a moment ago – even though the performance of this Honda hybrid is surprisingly powerful, it still delivers the kind of efficiency you want from a hybrid. The standard model gets an estimated 55 mpg in the city, 49 mpg on the highway, and 52 mpg combined fuel efficiency.** Few sedans can match this kind of gas mileage, especially if you do most of your driving around town. Overall, the Insight is quick, handles beautifully, and gives you excellent gas mileage so you can enjoy everything it has to offer for hundreds of miles between stops for gas.

  Honda vehicles are known as some of the most comfortable models on the road with incredible technology, and sophisticated features throughout – the 2022 Insight is no exception. In fact, with the removal of the base LX trim that had been offered in previous years, the standard Honda Insight is now better than ever. You can choose the standard EX trim or the slightly more sophisticated Touring trim and know that either way, you are getting a fantastic vehicle.

  EX or Touring?

  Standard features on the EX trim of this Honda car include an 8-inch infotainment display with an 8-speaker sound system, plus support for Pandora, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and more. You get automatic climate control in the EX, along with power windows and door locks, a steering wheel with illuminated controls, and push-button start all standard. The Honda Insight EX features seating for five passengers, with manually-adjustable front seats and standard seating that is comfortable and durable for many years.

  While these standard features are all terrific, if you want a bit of added sophistication, then you can choose the available Touring trim. With the Touring, you get a premium 10-speaker audio setup with a subwoofer, along with navigation and Wi-Fi hotspot functionality included with the infotainment system. You get dual-zone automatic climate control in the Touring, along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and an automatic-dimming rearview mirror. The Touring also includes heated front seats, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 4-way power front passenger seat, and leather-trimmed seating for that added touch of luxury.

  Although we certainly appreciate the engine and power of a vehicle, as well as the kind of luxury and technology it has, nothing else really matters if a car cannot help keep you safe. The safety features of any model we look at always reveal just how well-designed that car is – unfortunately, most models out there lock numerous safety features behind high trims and price tags. The 2022 Honda Insight is an exception to this: every model, regardless of trim, has fantastic active and passive safety features to help keep you and your loved ones safe.

  Standard Honda Sensing

  Every Insight, and every new Honda vehicle for that matter, comes with the Honda Sensing package of safety and driver-assistance technologies, so you do not have to choose between the upgraded Touring trim just to feel safe. This includes a Collision Mitigation Braking System and a Road Departure Mitigation System to help you avoid collisions and to stay on the road while driving. Every model comes with Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, which lets you more easily go with the flow of traffic, even in stop-and-go conditions, without as much stress and strain on you while driving over long distances.

  The Honda Sensing package also includes a Lane Keeping Assist System, which will actively work to help you stay in your lane on the road, as well as a Traffic Sign Recognition System that can help you keep an eye out for traffic signs and changes in road conditions. You also get Forward Collision Warning standard on every Insight model and Lane Departure Warning that can alert you when you seem to be drifting out of your lane. Other driver assistance technologies are also standard on every Insight model, including Auto High-Beam Headlights and a Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Monitor, which can warn you when vehicles are in your blind spot or when something is crossing behind you while you are in reverse.

  Standard Safety Features

  In addition to all of this, every 2022 Honda Insight also comes with a comprehensive airbag system throughout the interior, plus other features like vehicle stability control with traction control. LED daytime running lights and a multi-angle rearview camera with dynamic guidelines are also standard. In fact, all of the safety features on the Insight are provided on every model, so you never have to pay more to feel protected on the road.
