The CR-V comes standard with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that’s mated to Honda’s continuously variable transmission. Continuously variable transmissions don’t often get high praise because of their finicky nature and inability to balance performance with efficiency as promised, but Honda’s CVT is the exception to the rule with smooth shifting between gears. So, what does this mean for the CR-V?

  The CR-V’s 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and CVT transmission deliver 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque that make the CR-V quick to accelerate and respond in busy areas where stop-and-go traffic is common. It’s also more than capable of holding its own at highway speeds, which makes it ideal for excursions out of town. What’s even better is that this responsiveness doesn’t come at the cost of efficiency, with the FWD CR-V averaging 28 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway, while the AWD model averages 27 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highway.**
